In this section you will occasionally find my cats that are removed from the breeding program. Read carefully what drives me to have made this choice and contact me if you are interested in one of my ex-breeding cat.

After the article you will find (if available at the moment) the name of the cat available: if there are no cats indicated it means that at the moment there are no ex-breeding cat available. After reading the article please read carefully the section "Conditions for having one of my Siamese" and if you agree with them, please call me for a first telephone chat.

I firmly believe that even breeding cats have the right to have a life as a pet cat, spent on the sofa, playing or purring to his human.

The breeding cats, however, undergo very intense moments: for the female, the heat can be a very stressful phase as they are cyclically looking for a male to mate with. Due to the hormonal disruption during estrus, cats can (they are not all the same) sleep even a few hours a day and get destroyed at the end of the cycle. In some cases, the search for the male distracts them so much that they tend to eat less and lose a lot of weight (also in this case the situation varies from cat to cat).

I also stress out that the cat is a different mammal from the dog or the woman (who have monthly cycles in the case of the woman or six-monthly in that of the dog): the cat is a seasonal polyestral animal. This means that its estrus is linked to the amount of light that determines the lowering of melatonin: therefore a mechanism is established that concerns the pituitary-ovarian axis which determines the heat. From March (when the days get longer) to October (when they get shorter) the cat can have countless heats of varying duration.

In addition to estrus, giving birth must be considered since, as for women, it is an extremely intense and tiring experience. In addition to the moment of birth there is the taking care of the kittens and as it is well known the cat (due to the hormones in circulation) does not skimp on the kittens and devotes them practically all of her time. Furthermore, breastfeeding should not be forgotten, which often leaves cats very thin. After giving birth, it can take up to months for the cat to fully recover.

To avoid exploitation my feline association, the Fifé (like other association) sets a limit of maximum 3 litters every two years. I even prefer only one litter a year, for the reasons explained above. I decided before starting to breed that my cats would not spend their lives making kittens, not being able to enjoy life as a pet. After 2, maximum 3 litters, each cat will be sterilized and sold as a pet cat.

It would not make sense, in fact, to keep all the former breeding cats in the cattery (this also applies to males, which are used for few mating, given that an entire male lives in constant search for a female): this would in fact determine an overpopulation which brings to two very serious phenomena that would have a very negative impact on the life of the cat:

- psychological stress

- greater probability of spreading any viruses

Rehoming former breeding cats may seem a hard and calculating practice: it is actually quite the opposite, as - in my opinion - it is the only way to breed without exploiting the breeding cats.

After an initial moment of disorientation, the adult cat will adapt just like a kitten and will love his new human - carefully selected by me - as he loved me also because he will discover an environment with fewer cats (I already keep few) in which he/she can be the protagonist. absolute of human attention. (For obvious reasons an ex-breeding cat will go to stay in families that have at most one other cat, otherwise it would not make any sense to re-home him/her).

Obviously the separation is hard and that is why I will carefully select the new families who will welcome my ex-sirs and ex-queens, just like I do for the kittens: there will be a contract to be signed and the usual presentation by phone and visit to the cattery to be done . The cost is obviously more modest than that of a kitten for obvious reasons and can be an opportunity to have a purebred cat from a serious breeder that previously could not be afforded.
